How to Adopt a Revolutionary Educational Method in Universities

I have been learning English for four years, and I am never convinced of the way lectures are delivered in classes ,which would unreservedly exposes the frailties of the educational level of the African universities compared to the overseas ones.I am not in any way trying to fulminate against the system, not by a long chalk. One should pluck up courage be it a student, a teacher or an official and arouse others' attention and urgency in this radical change and why this new approach is quite effective and productive .By productive here I mean stimulating students into learning and applying knowledge .The aforementioned method is risk-free and designed to taking students' level to new heights. Briefly,it is Flipped Classroom. The latter which has become a hot topic and a buzzword in most of the European universities. One may get confused what a flipped classroom means. In this respect, flipping the classroom is a pedagogical method in which the typical lecture and homework are reversed ;short video lectures are given to students to view at home before the class session, while in-class time is devoted to exercises,problem-solving, projects, discussions and even debates.

It is crystal clear, isn’t it ?A tutor will provide students with all the materials required in a given course or homework such as video lectures,power-point courses, textbooks and the list goes on.By offering students these materials, the main objective is to make them feel that they have mastered the materials and got familiar with them.In return, tutors will benefit from better engagement and efforts when it comes to demonstrate what his/her students have learnt so far. What is more,it is to gain first exposure to these materials and use extra efforts and high cognitive abilities in classroom by including courses via videos ,so any student will feel that a teacher is always present in his/her room, even it is just a projection.A student should deploy what tutors provide and try to understand the courses given. When meeting in the classroom, each one will be given quizzes or activities to test what every one has learnt. Immediate quiz feedback and the ability to rerun lecture segments may help clarify points of confusion. Also, small groups will be more appreciated as to establish and maintain a connection between the students and their instructors .And ,plainly, the role of an instructor is to lead in-class discussions or turn the classroom into a studio where students create, collaborate, and put into practice what they have learnt from the lectures they viewed outside class.

Probably every student might ask why teachers are in favour of this method in their classes. The answer is that flipping the classroom has long been proved to be the best way that is compatible with students’ needs and styles;the notion of a flipped classroom draws on such concepts as active learning, student engagement, hybrid course design, and course pod-casting. The value of a flipped classroom is in the re-purposing of class time into a workshop where students can inquire about lecture content, test their skills in applying knowledge, and interact with one another in hands-on activities. During class sessions, instructors function as coaches or advisers, encouraging students in individual inquiry and collaborative efforts. Students will be organised into an ad-hoc work groups to solve a problem that several are struggling to understand. Because this approach represents a comprehensive change in the class dynamic, some instructors have to flip only a few selected class sessions during a term.

I dearly wish that one day our universities will shift their sight into this new approach.I can tell that it would be a new era,a remedial solution to the ailment universities have long been afflicted with, for the sake of a prodigious leap of our educational level.
